Patrick M. Shanahan, the acting US Defense Secretary has created Sexual Assault Accountability and Investigation Task Force to address the pervasive issue of sexual assault in the military.
The aim on the said task force is to provide support to sexual misconduct victims, uphold the integrity of the military justice system and to improve the processes surrounding it.
According to Shanahan, the task force created out of necessity after the results of the 2018 Report on Sexual Assault and Harassment in military academies which is “Unacceptable” in the department.
